When you start listening to one of Jenny Myers’ audiobook performances, you’ve begun a journey you won’t want to quit! Her elegant, clear and captivating voice conveys big passions and small nuances of meaning. You’ll experience the troubles and joys of the characters, the impact of the writer’s thoughts, and the anticipation of the perfect pause. She has the human power of the ancient storyteller, gathering you to the warmth of the fire.
After more than 20 years working as a high school English and history teacher, empowering young people to find their voices through drama, language and literature, Jenny Myers now uses her own voice and her keen literary mind in narration. She has always enjoyed reading aloud to students, family and friends, while relaxing on cold winter evenings or on road trips. People are drawn to the warmth, welcome and fun of her reading. You can be confident that she will carry you safely to the end of the story.
She grew up in England, then moved to Canada at the age of sixteen, where she married an American. Her accent is now a general American one, but with the added bonus of precise English enunciation. This gives her the ability to speak clearly to an American or British audience, and also gives her a wide range of accent skills to draw on. She is the Accent Queen!
She lives in northern British Columbia in a log cabin far from the city. It is remote, idyllic and amazingly quiet—perfect for recording! Her sound-proof audiobooth is in a spare bedroom. It is a cozy place when the world outside is covered with snow.
Her teaching background has made her a detail-oriented person. She is warm and empathetic and gets emotionally immersed in the story, but also does her homework with pronunciations, meanings, and geographical and historical context. She also aims for excellence in recording quality. Through practice and training, she has developed versatility of expression. She can be powerful and authoritative, gentle and painfully loving, playfully witty, sharply sarcastic, or darkly dangerous. She specializes in mysteries, thrillers and literary fiction (she LOVES historical fiction!), but she has narrated many different genres.
Her experience teaching reading and writing has given her a drive and purpose in life to increase literacy and the love of reading. Many people say, “I hate reading” or “I don’t have time for reading” because they are actually auditory learners: they can enjoy books better through audio. The recent rise in audiobook production is a wonderful opportunity for these people to access and learn to love books. Jenny is on fire to be a part of this movement!
She’s smart, capable, reliable. She’ll get the job done!
